AUSTRALIA – Fitzroy, The Kimberleys – Day 12 – 3rd June 2017

A walk through in the morning confirmed the appearance. Despite this, the huge Boabs, many trees, and garden show a past grandeur that reduces the poor maintenance. It is close on the banks of the river, and erosion is creeping near.

Geikie Gorge is 20km on a paved road. Four walks can be explored and launches cruise the river. I believe there are red sandstone cliffs some 3km down from the small open Park building, but we only walked 500m on the soft bank sand, along the edge of the old limestone reef(?). We watched a bus load set off in a launch.

Lunch on the road, a stop for fuel and ice cream at Willare Bridge, and we arrived in the Palm Grove Park on Cable Beach by 5.20. A good well kept place, packed to the hilt; we were lucky to get a spot at this late stage. Convenient to the grocery store and cafe for another ok but large meal.
