Thursday 15th – Cairo – Hilton Pyramids Golf

We were late waking at 9 to a dead phone (no adapter). Peigi and Jason were up at 7; they met us at the huge breakfast selection. Peigi had already contacted insurance, so we will go shopping nearby!  And she has a spare adapter to charge my phone.

The massive two level mall is a 10min Uber drive, unlike last night’s hour from the airport. We were accosted by two young women from Canada and Italy looking for an English chat, then looked for clothing, deciding on Marks & Spencers where Peigi found us. We have an excess of $250 but can spend up to $1500; Peigi suggested that she pays for it all as we are not buying more than the $250 so we’ve done that and bought quite a lot more than $1500; a quick stop at Starbucks for coffee and then back to the hotel for a rest before a Sound and Light show tonight with dinner; we’re all tired.

Dinner was at a small restaurant, Abu Shakra, overlooking the Great Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza. We gazed at them as the sun set, pressing into the delicious dishes of chicken or beef, big pyramids of turmeric rice, and four small dishes of condiments in which to dip pieces of flat bread.

We crossed the narrow road to the gate into the many rows of seating overlooking the famous site. I found it not as impressive as expected, possibly as there is nothing near it by which to judge the size, but also as the site is surrounded by buildings. The show is dated, suitable only for the 1930’s, and the lights could do with an upgrade too. I am still not familiar with the camera, so the shots were not great (spoilt by high ISO dots) and sitting too close to the front. My best shot was a quick one before the seating, which I was able to software ‘clean’.

Not the restful day planned – sigh.

  1. Some great shots of the colours, glad you found some clothing. Will you have room in the bags coming home ?
